Lynn Sheffield Simmons holds a bachelor's degree in elementary
education and a master's degree in special education from Texas Woman's
University. She is a member of Phi Delta Kappa honorary fraternity and
taught in the public schools. She has been a free lance writer for many years.
Currently, she teaches the course "Writing for Children" through the Continuing
Education Department at the University of North Texas. She has been the featured
speaker at The Craft of Writing conference held on the campus of Mrs. Simmons' award winning column, "Up A Creek," historical reviews, and feature stories have appeared in a number of newspapers and magazines. She was Newspaper-in-Education co-ordinator for the Denton Record-Chronicle and wrote two booklets, Using the Newspaper to Teach Reading Readiness Activities: A Parents Guide and Newspaper in the Home: How to Help Your Child With Homework, that was distributed by the newspaper. Her historical pageant, The Place is Argyle and her Easter pageants have been performed in Argyle, Texas many times. 1993 - 1995 - Mrs. Simmons was president of the Denton Branch of the American Association of University Women. 1995-1996 and 1997-1998 - She was fifth vice-president (tabloid chairman) of the Denton Benefit League. She was the founder and the first president of the Communities Civic League, a non-profit organization she planned out in 1998 to provide grants to other non-profit organizations in the Argyle area. In 2000, she was awarded the Argyle Community Woman's Achievement Award for her volunteer contributions to the community. Mrs. Simmons is the author of the popular children's books Sugar Lump, the Orphan Calf, Bo, the Famous Retriever, Jack Crow Said Hello, Bo and the Missing Dogs and her latest book, Bo and the Night Intruder. Mrs. Simmons lives on a small farm in Argyle with her husband, Larry, who for many years had a dental practice in Denton, Texas. |
